Ignoble Firs

12/15/2017

“Now in a wealthy home there are not only gold and silver articles, but also ones made of wood and of clay; some are for honorable use, but others for ignoble use.”
–2 Timothy 2:20

Ed Salas has a cool perspective on this passage – he asks, “What do the noble and ignoble utensils have in common?” Answer: they all get used.

This past week, one of the points of the message was, “Make someone else’s least favorite thing your favorite thing.” It’s kind of like Charlie Brown’s misfit tree – the most “ignoble fir” ever. Everyone thought it was the worst tree in the world, but now it’s one of the most beloved trees of all time.

I love God’s willingness to use a tree like that, because the truth is: Charlie Brown’s Christmas tree is US.

If you’ve ever wondered, “how can God ever use someone like me?” good news: the miracle of Christmas is, “Emmanuel, God with us” – He’s willing to bestow belovedness and give new purpose to people like you and me.

Hope you can come on Sunday – it’ll be like a forest of Charlie Brown trees at Newsong.

Merry Christmas!!!

PS Don’t forget, we all got a homework assignment from Sunday – let your heart be light by practicing these moves:
